((((OOC: This is just a brief roleplay for the purpose of introducing Moxie and such. Enjoy. I may get another one up soon, who knows?))))
“Johnny, wake up!”
Johnny Moxie raises his head off of the table that he’s sitting at in the VIP section of the Rock-It night club in Manhattan and he looks at whoever said his name and told him to wake up in a worn out and tired manner. It’s fairly obvious that he would rather remain sleeping than bothering with other people at this point. Ah, what a nice introduction to the man known as “The Revolution of Professional Wrestling”, right?
Johnny: What? Christ, can’t you let me sleep?
The disc jockey for the club, Scott Clayton, stands in front of him and next to his table. The man is wearing a rather baggy red shirt with a pair of cargo pants.
Scott: Um, there’s someone here to see you, man.
A frown finds its way onto Johnny’s face as he sits upright and then stretches. He then grabs the sports coat that he had been using for his makeshift pillow and then yawns before looking around and then gazing back up at Scott. Johnny was such a frequent client of this club that he was pretty much on a first name basis with all of the staff and employees here….perhaps because he actually was like a twenty five percent owner of the club or something along those lines. His father had helped him acquire that much of the club as soon as Johnny had graduated high school, but that was a complicated story for another moment in time.
Johnny: Well, whoever it is, I’m sure they can wait until tomorrow…..er…
He looks down at the shiny gold Rolex watch around his left wrist and then smirks a little in amusement at finding out what time it was. Nearly three in the morning.
Johnny: Later on today to talk to me. I’m sure it’s not that important, anyways.
He moves aside a few empty glasses that just a few hours before had contained some margaritas. Yeah, it’d look like Moxie had literally drank himself to sleep, but that wasn’t the case. Looking around the VIP area, it was easy to see that either this was a slow night for business or most of the patrons that had once been here had gone home. Sleeping or falling asleep was common for Johnny, especially in the wee hours of the morning when things were usually slowing down at the club and getting a little boring.
Scott: I don’t know, Mox, he said he’s a friend of yours and that he has some important Nutty Buddy related news for you or something along those lines, man…..
Nutty Buddy news? Good lord, what in the hell did Scott mean by this?
Johnny: A friend of mine? Scott, you know better than me that we get at least fifteen people a night who’ve seen me on TV, the internet or sent me a friend request on MySpace that only say they’re my friend to get into this VIP area. Granted, most of those people usually come during peak hours, I’m sure that’s what it is.
Scott puts his hands into the pockets of his dark blue Dockers pants and he shakes his head. It seems like he didn’t think what his boss had suggested was the case here.
Scott: No, Mox, I think I’ve seen this guy before. He said that he had some career related news for you. That’s what the whole Nutty Buddy thing was……
Johnny’s face is expressionless for a few seconds and then with a deep breath, he nods at Scott and leans back in his chair.
Johnny: Send them up. Beam them up, Scotty…..get it? Star Trek?
Scott nods, amused a little at this joke that Moxie had just made. He leaves the VIP area with a smirk and Johnny heaves a little sigh as he raises both of his hands to rub his eyes. After not even a minute, a man that causes Moxie to smirk walks up the stairs from the lower level to the VIP area. He spots Johnny and immediately walks over to him with a HUGE grin on his face that exposes his pearly white teeth.
Johnny: Hey, Kayden, what in the hell are you doing here?
Kayden Christopher pulls out a chair from the other side of the table and he sits down in it, even though it’s backwards. He faces Moxie and smiles at his friend. Built like Moxie, only a little shorter and less muscular.
Kayden: Well, I HAD to stop by and tell you the good news, man!
Johnny rubs his eyes, trying to get the sleepiness out of them for a second, then he nods.
Johnny: Good news? Okay, good news about what? Scott said it had something to do with a Nutty Buddy…..which doesn’t sound bad right about now, I’m actually kind of hungry…….
Kayden chuckles and shakes his head.
Kayden: Well, Scott misheard me. It’s about Sports Nutz Wrestling.
Johnny nods, then stops and his expression quickly turns to one of utter bewilderment. He shakes his head and looks over at his friend with a grimace. He wanted to know what Kayden was talking about, because hadn’t a clue at the moment….especially while being half asleep like he was.
Johnny: Sports Nutz Wrestling?
Kayden sighs and then shakes his head as he looks across the polished black wooden table at Johnny.
Kayden: Yeah, dude, they’re based out of Texas. Remember? You were the one who contacted them about getting a job there? Anyways, they called your place but you weren’t there. Your brother and I were, though. That’s why I literally ran over here. They want to bring you into the company.
He smiles as he says this.
Johnny: SNW? Texas? Are you sure this is a good move for me?
Kayden grimaces at Johnny and shakes his head as he looks down at the table for a moment and then he takes a deep breath as he mutters aloud for Moxie to hear.
Kayden: Yes, Johnny, some of the greatest wrestlers ever have passed through the ranks of wrestling companies in Texas. Like the Von Erichs and Freebirds in WCCW. Steve Austin got his start in Texas and even Booker T and Stevie Ray got their start as a tag team in the Dallas area. I’d say it’d be a big move for you.
Johnny nods and rests his elbow on the back of his chair. One could get the feeling that he probably didn’t have much of a clue as to half of the people Kayden was talking about.
Johnny: Well, it sounds like a deal, I guess. I was a huge fan of WCW growing up, so it’ll be awesome to work that region……
Kayden nods. Like always, Moxie seemed to miss the point here.
Kayden: Well, WCW did run in Texas back in the day but that wasn’t the company that I was talking about, man. I was talking about the company that had Kerry Von Erich, Jimmy Garvin, Gino Hernandez and others were a part of…..
Something or someone that has been mentioned seems to strike a chord with Moxie and he nods with a huge smirk on his face.
Johnny: Oh, Gino Hernandez? The “Handsome Half-Breed”? I know him, I’ve seen a lot of his matches on Youtube. That dude was WAY ahead of his time.
Kayden sighs and rolls his eyes. He figured, Mox only knew the guy from the internet videos that he’d found of him.
Kayden: Well, you have the chance to work the same territory and area as those guys did. I won’t lie, SNW may not be the biggest professional wrestling promotion out there, but there’s a lot of history in the Texas area when it comes to wrestling and you could easily walk in the same footsteps of the Von Erichs, Gino Hernandez and even Gary Hart!
With a slight grimace, Moxie raises an eyebrow and seems unsure about what he just heard. He raises a hard and scratches his chin.
Johnny: Well, I hope you don’t mean that I’d wind up…..well, six feet under. I’m too you and far too damn good looking to die right now.
With a slight sigh, Kayden shakes his head and looks over at Moxie from across the table as he leans against the chair he’s sitting backwards on.
Kayden: No, Mox, I mean that you could become as big of a name as those guys did. Fritz Von Erich is a legend in wrestling, Kerry Von Erich was an NWA World Champion and he even got a successful stint going in the WWF in the early nineties. I’m sure you know the heights that the Freebirds reached. It seems that a lot of people who have passed through Texas have gone on to achieve big things.
Looking a little unsure of things at the moment, Moxie finally nods and takes a few deep breaths as he looks across the table at his friend, then down at the tabletop itself.
Johnny: Well, I suppose that it’ll be worth a shot, now won’t it? What’s the worse that could happen, really? I get to travel a bit and um…..maybe meet some Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, if you know what I mean……
He raises his hand and reaches across the table to nail Kayden playfully in the shoulder. Knowing that Kayden was the type of person to really not care about cheerleaders or the Cowboys, Moxie takes a deep breath and nods with a sense of finality.
Johnny: But, yeah, I’ll call SNW up and tell them that I’m in. Whether or not they know it, they’re about to become ground zero to the One Man Revolution of Professional Wrestling. Whether anybody cares to admit it, or not, after I step into that ring…..Sports Nutz Wrestling is going to change and it’ll certainly be a change for the better.
