Scene opens with “Everyone’s Favourite Canadian SINner” Adriana Samu sitting in a living room on a black couch. We can see a wall-length terrarium behind her, in which we can see Juno slithering around. Kaos is sitting obediently at Adriana’s side. Adriana addresses the camera directly and looks quite serious.
Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is “Everyone’s Favourite Canadian SINner” Adriana Samu. Many of you may have heard that I am participating in a protest at Sports Nutz Wrestling this coming Saturday at Guys’ Night Out. I am refusing to wrestle and I might even refuse to show up all together. I have invited SNW cameras into my humble home today to clarify my position in this protest and why I have decided to join it.
The protest, if you haven’t heard, stems from the threat of a sex tape, made by and starring Tammy Winters, being shown during the broadcast of Guys’ Night Out this weekend. While KoKo B Ware and Delphine Marx’ argument is that this tape is smut and there is no reason why the world should have to see this vulgar piece of film, I have quite a different reason for joining this protest.
You see, I don’t believe in censorship. I listen to music with curse words and suggestive language, and I listen to it loudly. I don’t believe that pro-wrestling companies should be forced to cut to the crowd when someone gets knocked upside the head with a chair. I think blurring private parts and middle fingers is ridiculous, as we all know what’s behind the blur anyway. I believe that people should be able to express themselves in any way they want. It is up to the consumer to censor what they themselves watch, listen to or experience, not Corporate America or the government.
I am not opposed to the creation of this sex tape, or any sex tape for that matter. In these tough economic times, I know that we all have to exploit our own talents in order to make money. Clearly, Tammy Winters’ only talent is for screwing, and so I understand her decision to exploit this talent to make a few bucks. I am also not opposed to the airing of this sex tape, or any sex tape. If Tammy Winters and her other celebutant friends want to show off just how whorish and ditzy they are to the world, all the power to them. It only makes level-headed, morally strong, and value rich people like me look better.
What I AM opposed to is that SNW even hired Tammy Winters in the first place. Instead of hiring a woman with a background in broadcasting, experience in commentary, or a smidgen of knowledge about professional wrestling, or any non-bedroom-related sport, SNW administration hired a slut whose only talents are those that can be showcased best on a mattress. That this woman is gainfully employed by a successful company simply because she is a whore is a travesty to every woman.
When SNW hired me, I thought they were a progressive company that would set the standard in professional wrestling. After all, they hired a legitimately talented pro-wrestler, who was shorter than 6’1, lighter than 200lbs, and who happened to be female, and the administration not only immediately promised me that I would be considered equal to any male in the company but also immediately gave me the opportunity to wrestle with and against the men on the roster. It turns out they must have just been trying to look good, because SNW is now just following the status quo as it pertains to attitudes toward women in this business. That attitude is the women that are the most successful and get the most television time are those with the biggest breasts, the most ribs sticking out through their skin, the smallest brains, and those who are most likely to do a striptease, drop to their knees, and “earn” their spot in the company.
What kind of message does this send to the youth of North America? Young men who see this kind of behaviour rewarded and encouraged objectify women and become abusive and disrespectful. Young women who see the same save up for boob jobs, face lifts and liposuction, unhappy with their “average” looks and believing that they can’t be successful unless they look like a prostitute or stripper.
It is fortunate that SNW management had at least enough foresight to hire such a positive and strong role model to counteract the smut in Tammy Winters and other SNW staff and roster, who I won’t mention but whose names rhyme with Prenda Brice, MenigmaH, Bench, Farah, Gerise, and Vannah. I continue to hold on to the hope that SNW administration hired me to help them expose and reverse their bad habits and hiring practices.
And so, I stand in protest on behalf of every young female fan of SNW. I would like you all to do the same. If you plan to go to the show on Saturday, please go to my website: canadianladysamu.ca and order your tickets instead of going through SNW.com or your local box office. At my site, you can buy a ticket to the show and receive this t-shirt for only $2.00 more than the regular ticket price.
Adriana holds up a red t-shirt with “SLUTS” printed in white and a black X crossing it out.
Of course, wear your shirt to the show and show your support for myself, Delphine Marx, KoKo B Ware and…I’m SURE there was someone else…
Adriana thinks about that for a second before shrugging and continuing.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my position and I look forward to continuing this protest in the coming week.
The scene fades.
