When I ran NAWA, I had a cap on the roster that was based on how many writers I had. When i had more writers, I allowed more people on the roster because I could have more matches per card. When writers quit, I closed the roster and once and I while, I had a mass clearing out of characters who the handlers had but weren't very enthusiastic about, which helped keep numbers down. I also had a cap on the number of characters each handler could have, which is in effect here anyway, isn't it?
Finally, to help with the load, I had a handful of handlers that were interested in writing but couldn't join the writing team permanently. If they had some extra time one week or I was in a bind, we would PM each other and that took some of the pressure off the writing team. I don't have a lot of time these days, but I would love to be on this go-to team of writers that does a match when he/she has time.
Anyway, I also like the idea of a developmental promotion or a B roster or something like that. Especially for newbies. How often does someone debut, get a storyline going, then fucks off? I don't think the writing team would have to write a full show or play around with feuds or anything if they didn't want to - that takes a lot of effort. I think it would be more like a trial period for the character to make sure the handler is committed to the efed. Newbies could stay on the developmental roster for a pre-determined period of time (one PPV period, or 5 shows, or something like that). If their promos are consistent and they don't stir up trouble, they move up. Characters who don't have a storyline at the moment and jobbers can round out this second roster. The "matches" could be one or two sentence summaries of who won, how, and if something important happened during the match.
I also like the idea of a B show. I had one at NAWA, and I booked it based on two criteria - if you had a match on the A show, you didn't get a match on the B show, and you had to have promoed at least once in the last two consecutive weeks (For those of you who weren't there/don't remember, I ran the A show bi-weekly and the B show on the off weeks, so my handlers only had to promo once every two weeks). What this also does is requires that everyone promos every week (unless they requested to be left off the card for some reason) and cuts down on uncommitted people right quick. Once again, this B show was written usually by myself or Syco and consisted of super short results - it was just fuel to keep people promoing.
To me, I think efedding is more about promoing than about the actual matches so I don't mind the super short result shows. Maybe other people here feel differently. In any case, those are my thoughts. Whatever you in-charge people decide, I'm sure it'll be the best for your schedules and time constraints.
