The camera opens on an unfamiliar area of Dallas. The suburban atmosphere we've seen prior is less prevalent and a sort of grimey, dirtier neighborhood has taken it's place. There's a couple of bars around with neon arrows and flashing signs. If anything, it almost feels like we're in NYC.
Letham appears from off camera, walking down the street. He takes out a piece of paper, looks over it, then looks up at a sign over a sketchy looking bar. Letham shrugs his shoulders, shoves the paper back into his pocket, and opens the door.
We enter into a world we thought was over years ago. The people almost seem to be from a different world, or maybe, just a different era. Letham looks around and can see no one that fits the profile of a Dallas citizen. Then the music kicks in and Letham realizes he's reached his destination. The 50 some odd people all resembling something of the past sing in Unison...
"Relax dont do it, when you want to go to it. Relax dont do it, when you want to come...When you want to coooooommmmmeeeee."
Letham laughs.
It's 1984 all over again. We've got the 'A Flock of Seagulls' haircuts and the keyboard neck ties. I didn't think this kind of lifestyle was something you were into Andy, but if you want New Wave, I'm sure i can pick something up here.
Letham starts to make his way into the main crowd. Dressed in a green "Sustainability is Sexy" T-shirt and a pair of slim fit jeans with a couple of holes in them, the local crowd doesn't seem to want to welcome him into their stompin grounds.
Letham sits at the crowded bar. He signals to the bartender for a beer, but what the bartender returns with is nothing of the sort. With a shade of electric blue to the liquid and glitter on the rim of the glass, Letham knows there's something not right about where he's at.
Letham grabs the drink anyway and finds an empty booth in the back corner where the music isn't as pronounced.
I don't know if this whole 'new wave' lifestyle you've picked up is the sort of thing you should be going for Andy. I just don't think it suits you, or at least it shouldn't really suit anyone. Look at this guy for example:
Letham points over to a man with more makeup on then the woman he's talking to. He has on an all white get-up with a white leather overcoat that falls to his ankles. His hair is almost the length of Letham's, but half of it is spiked upwards while the other side lays flacid.
This guy takes more time styling that hairdo then I get hours of sleep at night. And that guy right behind him:
A man with skin tight red spandex and a tanktop, that join together to form a one piece outfit is playing with his long...mustache that he curls with his index finger.
It would take me two months and probably six other hands to pull me into that outfit. But enough about their unique choice of style. The real reason I'm here is to show you one thing, Andy. Look around...this is the last of their culture. This bar is the last of it's kind. You know why, because the New Wave just couldn't last.
It had a strong fight in it. Duran Duran and Squeeze really rode that New wave to the fullest, but it just couldn't survive. It wasn't strong enough, and wasn't smart enough. It couldn't get past the punk rock revolution or grunge nation. There was just too much in it's way.
Letham stops to take a sip of his drink, and after a hard time swallowing, Letham puts down the drink and gets up to leave. He opens the door and allows the screams of the sing-a-long chorus to enter the streets and closes it quickly.
That culture lives vicariously through you Andy. It wants so bad to live, just like you. Struggling to find your way in this federation, you just need something to carry you on. You just haven't been able to find those waiting arms, have you? At the pay per view, it wasn't Omerta's fault you lost, hell, it wasn't my fault you lost. You lost because you can't stand up to the likes of the superstars here.
I stood up tall to two wrestlers that had more experience, more ring smarts, and physically were bigger than I was. It just doesn't come down to who's bigger anymore. With all these excuses, Andy, you don't deserve another shot against me. Someone needs to show you the door before you become the rung everyone uses to move up in this place.
Letham turns around as some guys leave the bar, falling over each other and still singing. he turns back with a smile.
But for now, I'm just gonna enjoy the easy walk up.
Letham continues into the street as the camera zooms out and fades to black.
