Backlash was tonight, and it ended with Randy Orton winning the WWE Title, Edge winning the World Heavyweight Title(since Triple H was drafted to Raw this was all but guaranteed to happen) and Christian as the new ECW champion.
This coming about two weeks after the draft in which they wanted change all over the company, did they really get it? Edge has held the World Title more times than most of us care to count, and while Christian winning the ECW title is a good move judging by the ECW ratings no one will ever notice. Randy Orton winning the title is a nice change of pace, but is it that great really? Was I the only who though a Jeff Hardy/Matt Hardy/CM Punk championship troika was better than an Edge/Randy Orton/Christian one?

The way Backlash ended up was only academic in WWE terms. Triple H for better or worse was going to lose to Randy Orton eventually, because there was nobody who is heel that was going to be a main eventer. Randy's getting the better of this only furthers this ugly feud OR moves into a 3 way feud with Batista involved... unless they just take H out for awhile...or insert Cena.
Cena losing only makes sense to move THAT title belt off of Raw and onto Smackdown!. That and Cena winning wouldn't have made sense with the way the WWE ALWAYS runs storylines. Now Smackdown has a top belt for people to fight over, and Cena can move on to fight with H, Batista, and Orton... in some variety.
Christian winning the ECW title is just a long time coming since his return to WWE (which I saw first hand baby WOOOOO). Theres really nothing more to say about it, Christian came back and was put on ECW and immediately fought with the Swagger. The only reason he didn't get it at Mania is because WWE Brass didn't like Swagger's performance against Finlay in February and they didn't want him stinking up Mania.
Now as far as saying both Hardy's and Punk would be a better mix, I doubt that. CM Punk needs to go heel to be effective at this point and Matt has lost so much in his popularity that a world title run for him would be useless. Jeff Hardy ON THE OTHER HAND, is rumored to be contemplating leaving the good ole E again because of burnout so if that were true, I would imagine his final matches will suffer in quality and a title shot/reign wouldn't even be considered.
Now lets look logically at the turnout. Edge winning a title is best for Smackdown because theres nobody on Smackdown that is really built up to be champion right now, no matter how much people will argue Punk. Punk is just holding a briefcase, but other than that he has absolutely no direction. Orton being Champion on Raw gives the faces something to fight for or fight over. Batista, Cena and Triple H will either have to fight for number 1 contenderships and/or they will just throw all of them in a match together. And over on ECW, now theres a face champion after what seems like forever and Swagger can either demand rematches on OR they will continue on with these weird qualifying type matches.
Either way, they've accomplished one thing if not change and that is tying up the loose ends. Orton finally got the better of H, Edge finally took down Cena and put a belt on Smackdown, and Christian finally won the ECW title. Lets move on.

i wish WWE would move on. seriously, some of these storylines have been going on far too long. Orton & Triple H, for example, has been going on & off again since what......2004?
i can't even remember how long Edge & Superman have been fueding. i just know that it's been too long and too painful to watch.
i've seen a little bit of Jack Swagger & damn, he's boring as hell.
is Batista actually being considered a title contender, still? holy crap!
WWE is in desperate need of fresh talent....talent that can hopefully be developed into legitimate stars. WWE should've did a lot more of this, years ago, when they still had people who could properly build the younger guys up. instead, they wait until we get burned out wrestlers like Jeff Hardy, guys with no more cred, like Matt Hardy, old & broken down wrestlers like Undertaker & HBK.
glad i can watch a few older matches. at least with that, i can still be entertained.
