OK, I'll come out and say this. Maybe it's just my personality or how I operate, but I'm a 17 year old and some of the acronyms on this list I've never heard of before. www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/fox_5_links/Top_50_Text_Acronyms_Parents_Should_Know_052009Now, as far as this whole "sexting" issue goes it definitely happens within high schools. I've been told about it, been sent various samples of it from buddies. Do I think it really needs to be taken as seriously as it is, not at all. Most of the people that I hear do this are doing this and not exactly having sex. So, it goes back to the whole issue of would you rather your kid be masturbating or actually having sex? The answer would seem clear, but I've heard some odd things. Back on the topic, has anyone else seen or used these? Some of the more common ones, like NMU, are staples of what I use, but FMLTWIA was a totally new one for me.

i don't see much, regarding "sexting". from what i've seen on news stations, it appears to be the usual sensationalizing of the whole thing.
i'm clueless on what a lot of initials, like NMU or FMLTWIA. i only know basic web lingo, like LOL, ROFL, LMAO & so on.
on the part of sexting, we used to have something similar when i was young. it's called "borrowing dad's porn while he's at work and/or other events". if people didn't do that, we'd try to unscramble the Playboy channel in the hopes of catching 2 or 3 seconds of tittie. of course, cable was in it's infancy, back then, so we'd have to spend time messing around with a cable box.
if the parents had skinamax, it was common to sneak out of bed, late at night, for some cheap softcore porn. at the young age, we didn't care, as long as we saw tits!
yes, i'm officially speaking "on the record" about that. i was just as guilty as many other kids, back then. i suppose that was our form of sexting. only difference is that if we were caught back then, the only thing you had to worry about was the parents. now, with the way technology has developed, you can't just make those images disappear. once you send those images, that becomes something you have to live with for the rest of your life. the pictures pretty stay out there, being circulated from person to person to person to person.
that's really where the harm comes from. the pictures could get in the hands of a real perv. if that perv is capable of finding the person (like a neighbor), that person might act on their urges.
i think that's why people get so freaked out about this.

I'd be very shocked to hear any guy that wasn't raised in an overly-oppressive home(and even then) not be able to admit the same thing. Hell, I do. I've done everything you listed in that post, and I turned out fine. It's called being a teenager, we all did it and all will in the future. The internet just makes it easier. Like you said, the real danger is when one of these pedo freaks gets ahold of it, but how often does that happen I want to know?

i don't know if that can ever be tracked accurately, to be honest. as you can see (hopefully), i do have reasonable concerns over such stuff. it's not like my youth, where sneaking a look at tittie was a lot less harmful. there was fewer threats to kids, when i was younger.
while we had the "stranger danger", it wasn't nearly as common. i always heard about the threats, before anything would conceivably happen. you always knew when something was out of place.
with kids so attached to their electronics, it's a little easier to trick people into doing things that they shouldn't be doing.
