The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that talent at this week's WWE RAW event were discussing a rumor that Rey Mysterio had given notice to WWE management. While Mysterio's absence from this week's TV tapings supports the rumor, it should be noted that he remains on the advertised lineups for this coming weekend's house shows. This rumor is thus not confirmed and was merely something that was talked about at the tapings (fans and other media outlets are advised, again, to recognize this story as a rumor). At press time, Mysterio was still a WWE employee and, barring an announcement to the contrary, that should be treated as the only fact here.
Like the report says, treat it as a rumor and nothing more at this point. Considering that about 6-12 months ago Mysterio signed a new contract I don't think this has much truth to it, but diving deeper into it it would make some sense. Mysterio has won every title the company has to offer, is one of the most fan favorite wrestlers(he always ranks in the top 10 of merchandise sales), and for his style and age(while he's in his mid 30's he's been wrestling for 20 years) he's been injured in his knees and had several surgeries on them. I can see this happening if he's ready to take his money and watch his kids grow up. Maybe he's going to TNA in order to work a lighter schedule. While I don't see him leaving WWE for a long time, when you look deeper at the situation you can see that him leaving wouldn't be all that shocking.

i could see this going either way. i'm not going to jump the gun, until i have something a bit more conclusive.
assuming he's leaving, i can only say that there's no reason to stay. he's can't really accomplish anything new. it's a safe bet that he was smart enough to save plenty of "Fuck you" money. i call it "fuck you" money in the sense that he can probably retire if he wanted to & live comfortably.
his health & longevity would support the rumor, as already mentioned.
plus, i seem to remember Tajiri signing a new contract, a few years ago, only to quit a few months later. no reason why Rey wouldn't do the same.
no guarantee that this is happening anyway. Rey may choose to stay on with WWE for as long as he's capable of wrestling. most wrestlers don't sign contracts, only to quit soon after. i believe a few have, but most will stick it out awhile. if Rey didn't want to stay, he probably wouldn't have re-signed.
