One can finally put an end to the speculation regarding Bret Hart returning to WWE--it is going to happen.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter confirmed that Hart has signed a deal with WWE that makes him available as an on-air character from 1/1/10 through 4/10/10; it essentially means he will work with WWE until just past WrestleMania.
When asked about the situation, Hart "simply told us that he wasn’t going to lie about anything and thus wasn’t going to say anything on the story," noted the Observer.
Talk within WWE circles about bringing Bret Hart back hit a high point earlier this year. Though it is not known if The Hitman ever actually expressed interest in the idea, one storyline plan called for Donald Trump to name Hart the permanent general manager during the period in which he "owned" RAW.
At press time, the belief is that Hart will first emerge on television under the guise of a RAW guest host. A storyline would then result in him working for several months, with the latest indication being that he will work at least one actual match.
Only two words can accurately describe this: HOLY. SHIT.

I'm scared as Hell to see what he looks like in the ring, but I'll be by the channel whenever he comes back because I want to see this so I can believe it.

I would like to see it happen, but never mind how he looks in the ring- I wanna see how he looks nowadays period. The last time- hell, the only time- I saw him in public was a book signing he did in my area and I said to myself "God he looks like hell."

Wait, how's he going to wrestle? If I'm not mistaken, after suffering his second stroke while under a WCW contract they said he couldn't wrestle again. Maybe I'm just misremembering history, and considering the last two weeks I've had that's quite possible.

last time i heard, Bret did have a stroke or two. don't forget the mulekick by meathead.
i might watch WWE, just to see this. i don't see this working out well, under the circumstances. then again, i never thought WWE would work with Bret on a good DVD, either.

Or maybe Vince had a bet on when Hell would freeze over and he is trying to pull out all the stops...

Update on this story
credit:prowrestling.com
A source close to the situation says that Bret Hart has signed a short-term contract with WWE that will run from January 1st, 2010 until April 10th, 2010, about two weeks after WrestleMania. It was said that Hart wanted his signing to be kept quiet and his return a surprise but WWE all but officially announced it on RAW this past week.
The deal had been talked about for months now, possibly as far back as SummerSlam. WWE has expected Hart to come in for a program in the past but it's never materialized until now. There had also been talk over the past few months of possibly have Hart do something with The Hart Dynasty on TV to help move them up the ladder but that talk never materialized either.
Sources are under the impression that WWE wants to move forward with a storyline between Vince McMahon and Bret, playing off the Survivor Series 1997 screwjob. Some who were let in on Hart's return were even told that he would actually be wrestling, possibly only one match, but that still seems unlikely to most. Given his age and health, Hart wrestling probably won't happen.
A DVD on the Hart family is also part of the deal between Bret and WWE. It is still not confirmed that Hart will host the January 4th RAW head-to-head with TNA but he currently is not scheduled to appear for WWE before the 4th.

I don't care how official and reliable all the reports are - I'll believe it when I see it, and even IF I see it, it's going to be hella disappointing. I'll bet a pretty purple Canadian $10 bill on it.

Canadian money is purple? Our 5s are blue, 10s are purple, 20s are green, 50s are red/pink and 100s are brown.

Knowing our current US currency, the Canadian dollar is worth more probably so if I win this bet I'll make even more money.

Given Jillie's anti-WWE bias of late, this is where I say, "State your affiliation."
And I for one will be by the channel for Hart's return.
