We join Jack Clinton at his home in San Diego, as we usually do. Chris P. arrives after a few minutes but doesn't look too happy.
What's wrong with you?
I don't know. I really don't.
Okay. Just thought I'd ask.
Well, maybe next time think another way.
Alright, hold on a second. What bug crawled up your ass?
Do you really want to know?
You might as well tell me.
Chris takes a long, deep, drawn-out breath.
Okay, I'll tell you. I am finding it harder and harder and harder to believe that my place here is secure. I don't understand why it is that they say one thing and do another.
What in the hell are you talking about?
You know how they said I was gonna have to wait until Summer Bash to get my Von Erich title shot, right?
Right...
Well, I'm fine with that. But I also figured that I'd be less involved in people's shit than I am now.
You're not making any sense.
Alright, let me lay it on you like this. I don't know why I'm in the middle of this match you and Angel are having this week against the Alley Ratz and Tyler Straven.
Well, because we need a third and who else are we gonna get besides a close friend, right?
Yeah, yeah, right.
Jack is confused by this.
What is wrong with you?
Nothing. It's nothing.
It's something. It's a lot of something.
I said it's nothing! Don't you understand what that means?
It's never like that with you. You always say what's on your mind and what's bothering you.
Chris is starting to get a little angry.
You know something? I don't need this shit from you. I agreed to come here because I was going to help you out and get you back on your feet once Angel moved on to bigger and better things and once the Army of the Gods collapsed around you. I helped you get there. Did I ever get as much as a thank you for that?
I didn't think I had to-
And then when I need you the most you decide that you're back on your feet and you don't need me anymore.
I didn't say that.
You might as well have, Jack, because I did a lot for you and haven't gotten nearly the payback I should've received from you for all that work. You just went ahead and forgot about me, and now you're teaming with Chris Angel. And yeah, you guys are friends, I get that. But who's to say he won't turn on you right in the middle of the ring and try to take you out this week?
We've got a-
I know where you're going. "Mutual understanding of friendship, right?" Spare me. You know as well as I do that there isn't anything stopping him from snapping you in half in the middle of the ring and by not keeping yourself aware of the possibility that it might happen you're failing.
Jack shakes his head.
Since when did you turn into James Jackson?
*mumbles* He might be making a lot more sense nowadays *mumbles*
What now?
Nothing.
Look, Chris, I don't need this outta you. Hell, I wasn't even expecting this. I was ready to have you all gung ho like you always are and confident that we could tear apart those three assholes on the other side of the ring from us this week. And you give me this? When you know how much I need to be focused? I'm gonna say this once...you had better be on the same page with me and Angel Saturday. I need to know I can trust you.
You may not have to worry about that. But then again, who can you trust?
Whatever. You ready to go work out?
Actually, I'm too damn tired. Just show me to the TV.
Jack sighs and shakes his head. He and Chris leave the room.
