The scene opens up with the image of Simon Sensation leaning up against the apron of a ratty old wrestling ring somewhere in a rather decrepit looking gym. He smirks as things open and shakes his head.
Simon: You know, it amazes me how things work in this sport, it really does. Just two weeks ago I made my return to this company in a tag match and arguably take a step toward the Texas Tag Team titles and what happens now? Where do I go next? A singles match on this week’s Onslaught. I suppose that it’s all good. I mean, who doesn’t dream of holding singles gold in their careers? I know that I’ve held gold here and there and hell, why not gun for a title here in SNW, right?
He looks up at the camera, then sighs as he eyes the deck of cards that are in his right hand, resting on the apron of the ring.
Simon: Because while I came to SNW looking to win some tag team gold, why I traveled all the way back here to Texas to help out this company’s tag team division, you never know what the cards hold for you. You never quite know what the next card in the deck is. You don’t know what’s going to be dealt your way and added to the hand that you already got. That being said, who knows? Maybe this week’s Onslaught is a step toward the Bad Blood Championship or Texas Heavyweight Championship for me. You never know.
He looks back up into the camera and raises an eyebrow with a grin.
Simon: Of course, with 4 Up around the corner, this is more or less like a little preview match and a damn good one at that. The SNW front office certainly took two of their best looking cards and threw them together for this match. They put me against Jakob “The Templar” Cross. Here I thought that the Templars were things of the past, knights of days gone by in a world very different from this one. I guess I was wrong.
He takes a deep breath and furrows his brow.
Simon: I get to face you this week one on one, Jakob and I have to admit. When management made this match, when I first got wind of it I was a little worried. I was a little concerned. I heard that you’d debuted this past week and maimed your opponent with ease. So what did I do? Well, I’m a student of the game. I wanted to maybe peek at the card that was going to be dealt out to me next against you, I wanted to know how many chips to lay down on the table. I looked back at that match and you know what I saw?
He snickers, finding something amusing.
Simon: You beating a man named Captain Anus. What does that say for your potential, your career when you beat a man known literally as an ass in your first match out? Well, I also get that you’re a fighter. You’re sound. You were once one of Europe’s top prospects, but you know what? I’ve been around this world. I may only be in my mid twenties, but I’ve been on almost all of the containments and I’ve seen some of the best. Hell, I’ve faced some of the best. And the difference between the best and prospects is that the top guys in this sport out there know what to do with their potential. They know how to carry themselves. They know how to dig down within themselves and pull out their best equanimities. Prospects may or may not have potential, but for the most part they never quite learn how to use it.
He pauses, looking down at the cards in his hand.
Simon: Me? I’m one of the best around. You? You’re a prospect that will never develop into anything major because to be quite frank…..I don’t think you have it in you. Those are the cards we’ve both been dealt, Jakob and as far as I’m concerned, the only one that’ll walk away with that momentum, that spark going toward 4 Up is me. Don’t take it personally, man……..
He shrugs his shoulders and holds his hands out to his sides.
Simon: Look around us. When it comes to SNW, I’m the only king in this entire deck of jokers!
With that, he takes a card, flips it toward the camera and with the sound of it making contact with the lens, the scene fades.
