The room was dark, save for a single lit candle set in the middle of the table. The figure of a man can be seen, sitting comfortably in the chair, his right leg draped over his left. The man, upon seeing the camera, leans forward, till the light illuminates his face and its revealed to be Chris Angel.
“So, we have come to this moment,” Angel begins, his voice was steady with a slight edge to it, “this final moment when time will stand still and the Gods will stop to take notice. No other moment comes before this or will overshadow it. This moment, burns as brightly in the darkness as this flame and for every man that it touches, it will forever sear its mark in their souls.
But for all those people that have gathered to witness this grand spectacle, for all those people that hinges on the peripherals, soaking in the permeating glory, only two men will stand in its maelstrom and bask in its presence.
The question as to why they fight is on everyone’s tongues. Was it simple pride that fueled these two? Or was it destiny that brought them together?
Whatever it was, the truth lingers. They will fight and both stand to win it all or to lose everything.
As Bad Blood Champion, I seek to retain my prestigious title while adding the richest prize in our company to my resume. It is with great respect that I acknowledge my opponent, Vincent Matthews, the current and longest reigning SNW Texas Champion as a worthy opponent. While his methods and ethos are questionable, the man has taken everything the company has thrown at him and emerged unscathed. He is the pinnacle of this federation and for those that seek to attain that position, needs to climb it and knock him off.
And so far, no one has. One might argue his merry band of misfits strived to prevent that from happening but at the end, he remains Champion while those that fought him ended up with nothing. It makes no difference to whine about the loss, or even talk about being better. It doesn’t matter.
The only thing that does matter is he is still the Champion and those that fell before his feet were not.
And for the longest time, it seemed as if his reign would not end. No one of championship quality was left to face him.
That was…until I came around.
You see, I too am a Champion and it is with great pride and honor that I have defended my Bad Blood Title. It is with spirit and vigor that I fight to keep it at all cost and it is with great humility that I look to my match with Vincent Matthews and lay everything I have fought for the past year on the line.
I do not doubt we will brutalize each other Vincent. There is no love lost between us. We are as different as the sun and the moon. And right now, you are that sun, bright and powerful, chasing away the darkness and blinding your foes.
But even as omnipotent as you are now, there will come a time when your light will no longer burn as brightly. There will come a time when the moon will rule and its light will be soft and humble, but strong and comforting. Its light will lead the way through the darkness and it seeks to heal, not burn.
Like the light of this candle, Vincent, you burn, chasing away the dark, but wherever there is light, there is darkness and the brighter you burn, the darker the shadows linger around you, waiting for your flame to extinguish.
Light does not last forever, but the darkness is ever present.
And just like the darkness, I will come upon you as a shadow in the night. You will see me but you cannot defend against me. You will seek to burn me but for every aspect you destroy, the shadows will close more around you until all that you see in front of you is your own fire, burning brightly against the encroaching blackness, only to be snuffed out and consumed wholly.
There is no shame in losing Vincent, especially to one who has been king of the mountain more times than you. There is no shame in losing to someone better.
But there is pain. And there is bittersweet agony that you will carry in your soul. And it will eat you up when I defeat you and climb to the top to etch myself in the stones of destiny and become the First SNW Texas Champion and Bad Blood Champion.
You will lose your way and you will desperately claw your way up but the darkness, you see, the darkness will not let you go. You have much to answer for and the darkness that I bring is judge, jury and executioner. You will fall before me and at Lucifer’s Last Stand, only one of us will last and it won’t be you Vincent.”
The light of this candle flickers and wanes against the slight breeze and with hardly any effort, Angel blows the flame out and the room is totally dark.
“It takes little to put out a light Vincent. It takes little to snuff out your flame. I can do that. I will do that. At our match, I will extinguish your fire and like this room, you will be bathed in shadows.
And then, I…will be…Champion."
