Scene opens in a smallish room full of SNW fans and Brenda Price. It looks like everyone is waiting around for an SNW star to appear and, sure enough, Brenda takes the center stage behind a table on a slightly raised dais and, into the local sound system, makes her announcement.
Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of Sports Nutz wrestling, I would like to thank you for coming out today to support us! In a few seconds our guest of honour will come out, I will ask her a couple of questions. Next, you will have a photo opportunity with her and those of you who have brought something to sign will be able to get her autograph. Once again, thank you for coming out today! Let me introduce to you, SINdicate’s newest member, “Everyone’s Favourite Canadian Lady” Adriana Samu!
The crowd applauds heartily for Samu, who comes out wearing short jeans, showing off the tattoo on her lower leg, and a Team Canada hockey style sweater. She smirks and salutes the fans before turning her attention to Brenda.
First things first, Adriana, the question on everyone’s mind right now is…why?
Adriana scoffs at Brenda.
Really? Is that what everyone is asking? Or is that what YOU are asking, Brenda? Maybe STANK is asking it? I’m pretty sure that you and Stank don’t amount to everyone.
I…uh…I don’t understand…
Of course not, Brenda.
Adriana snatches the mic out of Brenda’s hand suddenly and non-chalantly shoos her away. Brenda, looking dejected, steps down and pouts.
You see, I have often wondered what it would be like to be a person in my position. I have seen many a wrestler switch sides as a fan and during my career. I always wondered what it felt like to have been the person that had to make the tough choice between their friends and their career. And let me tell you, it has been nothing at all what I expected. I half expected this room to be empty today. I at least expected to hear some obligatory boos. After all, I kicked your hero, Stank Lovve, in the nuts! But here we are – a room full of fans and not a single boo! You know why that is? Because I think Stank Lovve, and Brenda Price, apparently, are the only two people on the planet who hadn’t seen this coming.
I have spent my entire career trying to help others onto the podium. Hell, I even sacrificed my own in-ring career to start a company for others to have a shot at greatness. What did I get in return? I week’s title reign, graciously given to me by the person I allowed to run my promotion for me? A few worthless fans’ choice awards that mean nothing in the REAL business of pro-wrestling? Unneeded stress?
I spent six month contemplating what I wanted out of my career and what steps I was willing to take. I decided that instead of resurrecting my own promotion, I would join one as a regular member of the roster and an occasional writer. I also decided that I would do what was best for me, not what was best for “us.” So, when I got to SNW and started receiving offers from everyone, I took a second to step back and survey the scene. I decided to go with Stank, Double D and Candy, old friends.
But where did that get me? I have lost every single match I have been in since I started here! Where was my team when I needed them? When the odds were stacked against me and I couldn’t pull off the win, where were my friends to lend me a hand? Furthermore, where have my friends been for the whole six months I was out of action before I even got here? Where were they while I, a 24 year old in the prime of my life, was considering retiring all together? I’ll tell you where they were….pursuing their own careers, both here and in another company. And I don’t fault them for that, either – they are in this business to make money and have their star raised. That’s fine. But Stank shouldn’t be whining about how badly I treated him as a friend because he has been nowhere to be found every time I have needed his support.
The fans have not been asking “why?” The fans have been asking “when?” When will Adriana finally see that in order to get ahead she has to take her career into her own hands? When will Dria start wrestling to her potential? When will Everyone’s Favourite Canadian Lady do what she was born to do? The fans have been predicting this for weeks, Stank. Weeks and weeks. You are the only one that didn’t think I had it in me to reach out and get what I deserved.
Now, some may be asking “why Viper?” Well, I have known Viper as long as I have known Stank. Viper and I have not always seen eye to eye, but Viper has one quality that I very much admire – Viper does exactly what he says he’s going to do. That is who I need by my side right now. I need someone who will watch my back, just like he says he will, and in turn I will watch his. I might be small, but it doesn’t take much to help someone out in the ring when the odds have piled up against them. And Viper might not be my bestest friend, but he is reliable and he is successful. This is not a friendship, it’s a partnership. This isn’t personal, despite the rumours, its business.
It was 3 years ago November 14, the day after Eddie Guerrero died, that I took my life into my own hands and got sober. It seems fitting that, just in time for my 3 year anniversary of sobriety, I have decided to take my career into my own hands. My future lies with reliable, successful, dependable people like Viper and whomever the SINdicate brings in.
So, Brenda, the question has never been “why.” It has always been “when.” And “when” is now.
Any other questions?
Brenda shakes her head, still upset at being shooed off the stage.
Alright, then. Let’s get this party started, shall we?
Adriana sits down at the autograph table and waves the first of the fans forward, beginning to sign autographs as the scene ends.
