The scene fades back in as Wench paces on the back deck. She heard Damien and Hellspawn leave and was now more confused than ever. She paced a bit. How had things gotten so messed up in her life? She hopped up on the railing and swung her legs around and gazed out at the forest as she let her mind wander back over the past.
He had been right. He had always been there when she really needed someone. He always had her back. She sighed a bit before hopping off the railing and landing on the soft ground below. She walked over to a tree. It was tall and strong now. They'd planted it together several years ago. How could she forget? A few feet away was a smaller tree. She smiled. They had planted it a few months after Damien was born.
She heard a car door slam and turned towards the house.
Kat!
It was Matt. She really didn't want to see him right now. Matt walked through the empty cabin and out the back where he saw Wench. He jumpped over the railing and walked over to her. He went to hug her and she shoved him away.
Don't touch me Matt.
Kat...it wasn't me.
Don't give me that Matt. It was you. I know your voice.
Matt moved towards Wench. She glared at him and moved away.
Kat...where's Damien?
He's with Hellspawn. He's going to bring him back later tonight.
Matt got a look of anger.
Hellspawn was here? And you just let him take Damien...
He's his father. I...I should have never kept Damien from him.
Wench was getting a faraway look in her eyes that Matt had seen before.
Kat...let's go home and discuss this.
There's nothing to discuss Matt. You've already said enough on the tape.
Matt reached out to her and she pulled away. She looked towards the forest.
Just go.
Wench took off and ran for the forest and disappeared into it. She knew the forest well and hid deep within it. Matt tried to follow her and find her, but after several hours of looking and calling for her as he tried to explain she saw him leave the forest. Only after she heard a car door shut and a car pull away did she emerge from the forest. She sighed a bit.
Maybe Hellspawn was right...maybe..her place was by his side. She could never admit it though. She'd have to go out and give the match her all. Wench walked back to the tree and sat under it deep in thought as the scene faded.
