Scene opens on the interview stage of TSN’s Off the Record. Host Michael Landsberg is sitting across from three women. The one in the middle is smaller than the other two. She has long black hair and blue eyes. Her eyebrow is pierced, as is her tongue. She is wearing a Team Canada mini hockey jersey and jeans, and looks content and happy to be here. To her right is a hard looking woman with shoulder-length red hair. She has on a simple black tee and black jeans. She stares straight ahead with an intense look that indicates neither good naturedness nor mal intent. The woman on the other end has her black hair spiked in a Mohawk. She is wearing a camo tank and black cargo shorts, topped off with army boots. She looks generally disinterested in what is going on, but is clearly in a good mood.
ML: Ladies and Gentlemen, I am here today with three very special guests. On March 27, 2008, the indy wrestling world was rocked when one of it’s superstar promoters, “Everyone’s Favourite Canadian Lady” Adriana Samu, walked out of a planning meeting for an upcoming NAWA Danger Zone show and announced her retirement from promoting. There was no notice, no indication that things were going wrong. In fact, the NAWA had just celebrated March Madness V, and had just handed out its third annual A Night Of Excellence Awards. Sitting before me today is the woman herself, Adriana Samu…
Landsberg motions toward the woman in the middle, who smiles and nods.
ML:…and her two best friends, “The Assassin” Rory Kotch…
Landsberg motions to the woman to the right, who makes no acknowledgment of her acknowledgement.
ML: …and “The Other Girl” Petrina Rotchester.
The woman on the left snaps to attention like a kid who has been caught daydreaming at school.
ML: Thank you for joining me today. I have a lot of questions for you all. Let’s start with Adriana. What happened? Why did you walk out of NAWA?
AS: I didn’t walk out of NAWA, Michael. I resigned from my duties as head booker and promoter. I still own the promotion, and I still plan to compete for NAWA should someone step forward and want to run it. I also plan to run NAWA again when I am done in the ring. I left because I was spending far too much time in the office for a 24 year old wrestler with no injuries. I want to make the most out of my youth in the ring while I can. I’ll run promotions when I get old or injured.
ML: There was an announcement about someone wanting to take the reigns of power…
AS: That’s right. Stank Lovve informed me that he wanted to run NAWA. I hired him, and he is now trying to get things off the ground again.
ML: In the meantime, Y Kores shocked the wrestling world once again by signing a contract with the upstart promotion Sport Nutz Wrestling.
All three women nod.
ML: This is especially surprising because Matt Margera, one of the men in charge at SNW, ran out of NAWA with the World Title around his waist. Didn’t you vow to never work with him again?
AS: I vowed that he would never work for NAWA again, or any other promotion I decide to take on.
ML: How did this deal come about?
AS: I was talking with Syco Boy a few days after my resignation and he asked if I was interested in continuing my in-ring career, which, of course, I am. He told me about Margera’s project and I contacted Matt. We cut a deal, and here we are.
ML: As the former boss, how are you going to handle not being the boss?
AS: There is no issue there, Michael. I have come to SNW to continue my in-ring career while I am still young and healthy enough to do so. There will be plenty of time later to be the boss. Besides, I don’t even like being the boss that much. I like working on the same level and in concert with others.
ML: Alright, now to Rory Kotch. This is the second time you have followed Adriana Samu. You followed her out of FCW to be one of the first contracted wrestlers signed to RMW, which eventually became NAWA. Now, once again, you have followed Samu to SNW. Why do you follow Samu around so much?
RK: When I first left FCW for RMW, I didn’t like Samu at all, but I respected her. As a woman in this business it is hard to find other women to compete against and with that are up to my calibre. Most of the women in pro-wrestlink are sluts, playboy bunnies, or underwear models, all of whom know nothink about wrestlink. Adriana Samu is the same as I. She is far above the calibre of most pro-wrestlink women, and she knows how to make the men that run the majority of the promotions stand up and take note of our talent. There is really no place other than with Adriana Samu that I can go. She only joins promotions where there is no women’s title, but where the women have to step up to the level of the men if they want gold. I am confident that my wrestlink abilities are at the same level or better than any man in SNW, just as I vas confident that I would not be under-challenged in RMW.
ML: There has been much talk in the last year about impending retirement for you, Miss Kotch. Can you tell us about that?
RK: I have had some respiratory problems in the past that have been gettink worse in the last year. Eventually I will not be able to compete. I don’t know if that will be in the comink year, the next two years, or the next five. So until then, I plan to work as hard as I can to get as many accolades and break as many records as I can.
ML: Speaking of broken records, you ladies have been the harbringers of many of them. Rory Kotch, you were the first woman in FCW to win a men’s title when you were Tag Team Champion with Viper. Adriana Samu, you and Candy Lovve were the first women to compete against men, period, in FCW when you fought Air Raid for $50,000. Petrina Rotchester, you and Rory Kotch were the first all female Tag Team Championship team in North America to my knowledge. As the youngest and newest wrestler in this triad, how does it feel to work with such esteemed women?
PR: Well o’course it’s an honour, Michael. How’d ye think it feels? Every time I step in’o that rin’ I take what I learned from me trainer, Rory, and me friend, Dria. That’s the reason I been so successful. I learn from successful women.
ML: Is that why you followed your Y Kores team mates to SNW?
PR: Where else’s I gonna go, love? The WWE? They’d make me get implants and prance ‘round naked. WRF? They’d stick me in a flounderin’ women’s division with the same repetitive feuds week in and week out. TNA? Those women’r talented, no doubt, but I ain’t steppin’ foot there till I see’em let Kong or ODB beat up one ‘o them wee snivellin’ boys. SNW is the place to be. I can play with the boys, I can hang out with some of me friends, and I can continue me education in the ring. Maybe even break a few more records.
ML: Well, before we go, Adriana Samu, you have your first SNW fight against Hannah on Wednesday. Your thoughts?
AS: It will be a new challenge for me, Michael. It’s been a long time since I’ve wrestled against someone I didn’t know to begin with. I have to do a little research to find out her style and where she was trained, but other than that I pretty much have to go in there and give it my all. On the other hand, she knows nothing about me or my wide range of wrestling styles. I can pretty much adapt to any situation. I’ll be fine.
RK: And we’ll be rinkside just in case Hannah decides to play dirty.
PR: That’s right. The success o’one is the success of all.
ML: Well, thanks for sitting down with me today, ladies. Good luck in the future, and I hope to see you soon! I am Michael Landsberg, and this has been Off The Record! Goodnight!
