Scene opens in “The Excellent Gordie” Gordon Heath’s office. “Everyone’s Favourite Canadian Lady” Adriana Samu, “The Assassin” Rory Kotch and “The Other Girl” Petrina Rotchester, along with their manager, Xander Nova, are all sitting across from Heath’s empty chair. Samu is texting, Kotch is tapping her foot impatiently, and Rotchester is fidgeting and looking around at the things on Heath’s desk and on his walls. Nova is just sitting patiently.
I feel like we’ve been sent to the principle’s office.
I wouldn’t know how that feels.
Right. Like you were never in the principle’s office in school.
I find that very hard to believe.
What are you saying?
That you are a troublemaker.
Ha. I was a perfect child.
I’ve got yer brother’s number. We can settle this debate right here…
Rotchester pulls out her phone and starts texting, as well as Samu chuckles to herself.
Because he knows what happened when I was out of his sight…
The door opens and Heath and Brenda Price come in. Heath waves Price to a chair beside Nova, who doesn’t acknowledge her.
Good afternoon, ladies. How was your weekend?
Very productive, thank you.
I understand that tomorrow is Canada Day in your country…
It’d be a neat trick if it were Canada Day in somebody else’s country…
Heath looks annoyed but Kotch steps in.
If you don’t mind, Comrade Heath, may ve start this meetink? Ve do indeed have some Canada Day celebrations to make it to before comink back here for Saturday’s show.
I understand that you three are not willing to give Miss Price any interview time.
That is correct.
That is unacceptable.
Why? It’s not in our contract…[to Nova] Is it?
Nova starts to say something but Heath interrupts.
This isn’t about contractual obligations. This is about Miss Price trying to do her job. Her job is to find out what you are thinking for the fans, and you are impeding her fulfilling her contractual obligations.
What are you going to do…fine us for not letting Brenda do her job? I don’t even think you can do that.
I’m sure there’s a loophole somewhere in there…
For heaven’s sake, this is a vaste of time. Ve should be gettink ready for our match.
[In her best interviewer voice] You are fighting the Alley Ratz this weekend, right?
Ye bet we are. We’re gonna kick their asses, too.
Samu glares at Rotchester and Kotch elbows her. Price pushes on.
Which two of you will be squaring off against Eddy and Twitch?
Love, when ‘ave we ever told ye that? What would be the point in ‘avin’ the Freebird Rule if we jus’ told ye ahead of time who was gonna compete?
Pete!
Ve are not talkink about our matches anymore! This vas partly your idea!
Aye, yer right. Me lips are sealed.
Oh, come on! How am I supposed to do my job if you won’t talk!?
There are plenty of other wrestlers around here, Brenda, who WILL talk about their upcoming matches. Everyone else on this roster would yap for hours about their opponent, about their accomplishments, and about the plan they’re going to execute. But not us. Not anymore.
That’s right. The fans don’ need to know what we’re up to. They jus’ need to know that if they show up they’ll be gettin’ a good show. An’ Heath, you an’ the rest of management don’ need to know what we’re up to, either. Ye just need to know that we intend to honour our obligation and show up to fight our match. Lastly, The Ratz don’ need to know what we’re up to. They’re the last blokes that need to know.
The fact of the matter is Alley Ratz know vhat ve think of them. They know vhat ve know about them. They probably even know how ve are goink to prepare for them. They only think they don’t know is vhich two of us they have to be ready for themselves. Ve are not about to give them a hint. Ve are not goink to give them anythink.
Nova suddenly barks something in Russian. Kotch smirks and stands.
My darlink husband says that now ve have made our point it is time to get to vork.
Samu and Rotchester stand as well.
It was nice chattin’ whichye, Mr Heath.
Y Kores turns and heads for the door.
See you Saturday, Gordie!
Y Kores files out leaving Brenda and Heath unsatisfied and annoyed.
